Massage therapy uses hands on communication with the soft tissues of the body to decompress, release and align each person’s unique structural framework. Releasing restricted soft tissue using integrative massage techniques can help to normalize the sensory input to the nervous system (reduce noxious sensations) and thereby facilitate better movement and posture. The altered sensory input from the body results in a more balanced neuromuscular system, a feeling of lengthening and openness, increased circulation and decreased pain.

During a session we will go through a thorough history to gain a clear picture of what has brought you in. Then, using a collaborative approach with all practitioners at DLA, a treatment program will be created based on your goals, what is important to you and what is found in the assessment.

There will be homework with each sessions so that the improvements gained are sustained thus creating better function and independence from ongoing treatment. Our goal is to have you functioning well and moving confidently. Self care and education are an integral part in fostering lasting results and getting the most out of your massage therapy treatment.

At Diane Lee & Associates in White Rock/South Surrey, we continue to offer a functional approach and strive to be a centre of excellence with our goal being to help you achieve yours.

This often requires addressing the cause of your pain as opposed to merely treating your painful structures. This paradigm shift requires an understanding of how the whole body functions and how certain problems can impact other regions of the body. It also requires an understanding of how the things you feel, and believe, about your current experience can impact your function.

All of the physiotherapists at Diane Lee & Associates are experts in the physical diagnosis of movement impairments and have taken several post-graduate courses in their specialty. They work as a team, frequently consulting with one another to bring you the best care possible.

Ultimately, our goal is to help you change the way you use your body by initially creating an awareness of the things you are doing that are currently overloading structures and creating pain. We will provide you with the tools necessary (knowledge, control, flexibility & strength) to move/exercise in ways that create optimal loading and efficient, pain free movement.

By empowering you with the knowledge, movement and awareness necessary to make the changes in your own body, we are simply guides in your own healing process as you transform to live with a healthier, more active body. The greatest success occurs when you are an active participant in your treatment program and we do expect your commitment.

Sometimes, old movement and posture habits are easy to release and change during your physiotherapy or massage treatment session, but then they keep coming back.

The story goes something like this: you tell us, "I felt better for a few days after our last session, but I can't seem to keep feeling better. The muscles tighten up and I feel the same again." Frustration mounts for both you and your therapist (physio or massage) as your brain resists letting go of its old habits. Let's face it - old habits are tough to break.

In your one-on-one yoga therapy session, you will be guided through movement training that compliments your physiotherapy or massage therapy. You will learn how to change poor breathing patterns, calm your nervous system, as well as yoga based exercises that are targeted to your particular challenges and restrictions. After one or more individual sessions, your Yoga therapist may suggest that you progress to our Group Therapeutic Yoga classes.

Diane Lee & Associates is pleased to collaborate with Noëlle Trotter of West Coast Pedorthics. Noëlle is a certified pedorthist who assesses biomechanical and structural function of the lower limb and then dispenses custom foot orthotics when necessary. Noëlle works in collaboration with the physiotherapists at Diane Lee & Associates and is in a unique position to offer an integrated approach to the prescription of foot orthotics.

Philosophy on Orthotic Therapy

The use of a custom arch support is a non-invasive way to reduce or eliminate pain in areas such as feet, ankles, knees, hips and lower back by improving structural alignment and/or restricting or enhancing motion. However, they do not take the place of any restorative exercises recommended by your physiotherapist. Orthotics can be used to treat a variety of injuries and often work best in conjunction with other therapies.

Judit has a special interest in helping people with various spinal conditions such as back pain, scoliosis, kyphosis, chest conditions and spinal fusions. Since graduating in 2010 from the Semmelweis University of Hungary, Judit has been working in various spine specific clinics around the world.

She started dancing at a young age and after high school she completed a Contemporary Dance Teacher course. Learning about the capabilities of the human body influenced her to study more and to earn a degree in Physiotherapy.

She also has great passion for music. Judit has over 10 years of performing experience as a jazz singer, that lead her to write her Physiotherapy Thesis on Musicians’ Musculoskeletal Impairments with special emphasis on the upper extremities and spine.

Following her graduation from Semmelweis University in Budapest Hungary, Judit has worked in various Spinal Clinics in the areas of acute and chronic pain, and orthopaedics. Her area of focus has been scoliosis and kyphosis and she deepened her knowledge by completing the German Asklepios Katherina Schroth Clinic’s International Schorth course. In 2014, Judit presented at the SOSORT Conference for non-operative management of scoliosis and structural spine changes in Wiesbaden, Germany. Since then, she contributed to multiple scoliosis and kyphosis specific research and conference presentations.

Judit learned about the Integrated Systems Model as a patient for her acute back pain. She immediately felt the need to learn the “magic” of understanding the hidden secrets of how the body is interconnected. Completing the ISM series was an empowering experience that allows her to bring in all the creative energy that supports clinical decision making, fun exercise prescription and use of unique treatment techniques.

Her treatment is also influenced by Maitland and Mulligan manual therapy, McKenzie Therapy, neural mobilization (clinical neurodynamics) and kinematic taping.

Her goal during a physiotherapy treatment session is to hold a safe space where therapist and client can create meaningful connections while learning healthy lifestyle changes and understanding how capable their body is.

Amy graduated from the Master of Physical Therapy program at UBC in 2012 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at Simon Fraser University. Dance has been a big part of her life from a young age and sparked a lifelong interest in movement and the human body, ultimately leading her on the path to becoming a physiotherapist.

She discovered pelvic health physiotherapy after developing pubic symphysis pain, pelvic organ prolapse, and stress incontinence with her two pregnancies/deliveries. This firsthand experience motivated her to make a significant career shift and pursue her passion for pelvic health which is now her primary area of practice. Amy has since completed numerous courses in pelvic health, prenatal and postpartum care, as well as Clinical Pilates training, and is certified in anatomical acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute. She finds it especially rewarding to help clients with pelvic pain and other persistent pain conditions.

Previously, she worked for many years with clients with neurological conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and Parkinson’s disease, helping to improve their function and quality of life using the Bobath concept. This experience has greatly influenced her treatment philosophy of addressing the whole body and the whole person, considering all aspects of their being using a biopsychosocial approach.

When she’s not busy running after her two young boys, you’ll find her hiking, snowshoeing or paddling on the water. She is also currently learning how to navigate weightlifting with prolapse.

Amy is a lifelong learner and her pursuit of continued growth and excellence in client care is what brings her to come work with the incredible team at Diane Lee & Associates and take a deep dive into the Integrated Systems Model (ISM)!
